Venice is beautiful. Most other European cities seem so immaculate and white, but Venice is all colors crumbling into the water.
I had a fantastic time - my hostel was disorganized and ridiculous, but super social, friendly and fun. I made friends with two beautiful German girls (you can see them staring out into the Mediterranean!)
I wouldn't consider Venice to be a very romantic place, the reality is that it's absolutely packed full of tourists - Disneyland for adults. But it's easy enough to run (boat?) from the crowds, and explore in places no guidebook carrying person goes.
